Engela Fullard – Flautist

At heart and soul I am a lover of (decent) music and teaching.  So what am I – a musician, teacher, composer, arranger, engraver?  All of the above.  Oh yes… and good at it!

My passion is teaching/training music teachers, students, composers, arrangers, musicians to master music notation software.

Having experienced different music notation software programs (Composer, Musicator, Musescore and Finale) during my musical journeys, I eventually discovered and settled for Sibelius, one of the Big Names in scoring software to date. The only way to curb my enthusiasm, was to share it with other musicians, teachers, composers, etc., so I started one-on-one training sessions in 2007. Soon the news spread, with the result that group sessions and workshops came into demand:

  • During April 2017 I had the privilege of attending and presenting a Sibelius notation software in Paarl, South Africa. Delegates were also introduced to Auralia and Musition, as well as the latest Scoring program, Dorico, developed by Steinberg, There was also a lot of interest in (the free) Musescore, a very underrated music notation software.
  • In August 2016 I was invited to do a music notation presentation at the Music School of the Future 2016 Conference, hosted by Kingswood Collge, Grahamstown.
  • In August 2015 I did a Sibelius presentation at the ISMAE/PASMAE Conference in Nelspruit as well as a workshop for learners and teachers at Penryn College in Nelspruit.
  • On 9 August 2014 I had the honor of doing a Sibelius presentation at the Pan African Society of Music and Arts Education (PASMAE) Conference in Pretoria (South Africa)
  • April 2014 saw the conception of i-toll – Interactive Training On-Line Live! – a platform of learning in the comfort of your home, office or classroom. Using TeamViewer we are able to do screen-sharing, enabling me to guide you through your project, covering whatever your musical needs are! Clients are from Los Angeles, Massachusetts, Botswana and all over South Africa.
  • In 2013 saw another workshop in Johannesburg, this time at St Andrews School for Girls, where there were teachers and musicians from various parts of the country (and Botswana).
  • In February 2012 I held a full day workshop for the music teachers and learners of Kearsney College, a private boarding school for boys in Botha’s Hill, a small town that lies between the provincial capital of Pietermaritzburg and Durban, the largest city of KwaZulu-Natal (South Africa).
  • Later in the same year it was off to Johannesburg for a workshop for a small group of music teachers and learners.
  • I introduced a number of music teachers to Sibelius at a Music Conference in Cape Town in March 2011.

I am a qualified and experienced music teacher and musician, having specialized in piano, flute and ensemble work. After “laying down the gloves” after 20+ years of teaching at government schools as well as privately, I continued my creativity by arranging music for choirs and small ensembles, and in 2004 published a book (Fairplay) with 5 pieces for junior ensembles.
