Music Notation Software Presentation

Posted by on 27 March 2017 in Blog | 0 comments

Learn all about Music Notation Software at a Presentation for Music Teachers at the 95th Annual General Meeting and Conference of the SASMT Conference, Frank Pietersen Music Centre in Paarl, Western Cape on 1 April 2017.

It’s Easy!

  • Don’t be intimidated by you learners that (think they) know more than you about music technology. I will show you just how easy it is to master music notation software.
  • Forget about using manuscript paper and pen to arrange music for you choir or ensemble.
  • Jot down your creative ideas and improve them as you feel inspired.
  • No more cutting (with scissors) and pasting (with glue) of theory exercises.
  • Transposing of music by writing out notes in a new key is definitely old-fashioned.

Be Adventurous!

Music School of the Future Conference

Posted by on 18 August 2016 in Blog | 0 comments

Just returned from the amazing Music School of the Future Conference hosted by Kingswood College in Grahamstown. Our keynote speaker was Ed Sarath, all the way from the University of Michigan.

The other presenters were really inspiring. I had the privilege of introducing Dorico, new notation software from Steinberg. My music notation presentation, which included Sibelius, MuseScore and the soon to be released, Dorico, was well received. There were about 75 delegates from all over South Africa, but also from Botswana!

Dorico: new scoring software from Steinberg

Steinberg will be releasing Dorico, the next generation scoring software in the last quarter of this year. It promises to be everything you ever wanted in music notation. The first release may not contain all your favorite features from similar programs. These will however be added, as the brilliant development team, under the leadership of Daniel Spreadbury, continue to improve their “new baby”! Valerio Dorico was one of the most important music printers in Rome during the 16th century, from there the name “Dorico”. Read more…

All serious musicians can look forward to getting their hands on this professional music notation application. Will keep you posted!

Sibelius on-line training

I’ve just had a great Sibelius lesson with Engela on-line. Learned loads of little tricks to help me work faster and more efficiently as I make transposed versions of songs for my singers, and make sound files for rehearsal. Got to grips with the MIXER, too! How nice to chat with, and learn from someone who picks up where you are in your skill levels, and takes you from there. Thank you, Engela! – Sandy Park-Ross
